About
The Perception Papers are a series of brief, analytical writings that explore how information, stories, and communication influence the way people perceive health. They combine research-driven insight with narrative clarity to examine the hidden forces that shape perception, behavior, and health in the modern world.
Rather than focusing only on data or outcomes, these papers investigate the mental frameworks that guide how people interpret health information, evaluate risk, make choices, and form beliefs. They highlight why communication matters as much as content, and why clarity, credibility, and creativity are essential for building healthier, more informed societies.
Each Perception Paper offers a deep dive into a fundamental question:
How does the way we see health shape the way we live it?
The Perception Papers are published annually at the end of each year, offering an accessible synthesis of emerging ideas in public understanding and health communication. This year, three Perception Papers are published. Each edition invites readers to reflect on how information shapes health behavior, helping, creators, communities, and institutions benefit from new ways of seeing health in a rapidly changing world.
I
Paper I, "The Influence of Information on Human Well-being," examines how the modern information environment shapes individual and collective well-being. It explores how narratives, visuals, and messages influence risk perception, daily choices, and long-term behavior. Drawing on insights from communication science, psychology, and public health, it explains why the quality of information matters as much as the quantity, and why understanding these dynamics is essential for creating healthier and more informed societies.
II
Paper II, "Turning Science Into Story" investigates the critical role of storytelling in modern health communication. It analyzes how creators interpret scientific evidence, transform it into accessible narratives, and shape public understanding across digital and social platforms. By exploring the balance between accuracy and emotional clarity, it highlights how responsible storytelling can bridge the gap between scientific discovery and real-world impact, and why creators are indispensable partners in advancing health literacy.
III
Paper III, "The Future of Global Health Literacy," outlines the emerging challenges and opportunities in global health literacy. It presents current trends in information access, digital learning, and public trust, and examines how these forces shape the way people interpret health guidance and make everyday decisions. The paper argues that strengthening health literacy is essential for equity and community well-being, and it calls for collaboration between researchers, educators, institutions, and creators to ensure that credible understanding is available to all.
